Curriculum Coordinator Message
Working together with our talented, caring, and dedicated team, we set high academic expectations, which emphasize our innovative and creative approach to education. Our goal is to ensure that all students benefit from our curriculum, which is designed around the rigorous Common Core State Standards for English language arts and mathematics; as well as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for high school sciences.
Our teachers and administrators work to identify the “essential skills” needed in each course, subject, and/or grade level. We strive to deliver relevant and engaging instruction every day so that our students are excited about coming to school and learning with their peers. We set high academic expectations which not only address school culture, but also our global community.
In regard to instruction, we provide ongoing professional development to teachers in order to implement best-practice instructional strategies. A few examples include: guided reading and library skills programs, technology integration, 21st century thinking skills, effective questioning strategies and professional learning communities.
While using a balanced approach to assessments, we use both formative assessment experiences to guide our instruction and summative assessments to measure our students’ progress toward mastery of essential skills. We also take part in the MAPs (Measurement of Academic Progress) standardized testing each year. These assessments help us guide our curriculum and instruction, and provide us with a larger perspective to build our successes and opportunities.
Working together, we are committed to inspiring our students to become confident, lifelong learners.
